Embrace other platforms: integrate public resources everywhere
The IMLS should fund projects that integrate library and museum (and archival) resources into the web platforms that people are actually using to find things: Google, Wikipedia, Facebook, etc. This means a move away from building "destination" sites, toward figuring out how to bring relevant information about local and national public resources to these other platforms. The IMLS should fund projects that integrate library and museum (and archival) resources into the web platforms that people are actually using to find things: Google, Wikipedia, Facebook, etc. This means a move away from building "destination" sites, toward figuring out how to bring relevant information about local and national public resources to these other platforms. The tools exist for creating tighter integration with these platforms, but there needs to be (1) research into how to exploit them effectively, (2) implementation projects to carry out the integration work and provide examples of best practice, (3) higher-level tools for making integration, monitoring and maintenance as easy as possible.
