Too often, educational reform policies such as Information, Media, and Digital Literacy are overlooked and/or undervalued in national discourse regarding what benefits the public good, except, of course, where it is politically expedient to do so. More engagement of these issues as key social determinants in meeting successfully the lifelong learning needs and challenges of underserved Americans is essential, particularly for institutions like IMLS in the process of developing meaningful, operational strategic plans. Investing in program evaluation strategies using community based participatory research methodology may even enhance the mission and stature of IMLS. In the final analysis, what benefits the underserved, in effect, can benefit all of America.
